International Women’s Day is about celebration, advocacy and reflection.
I believe that today, awareness about women’s equality and emancipation has certainly increased thanks to many battles that our mothers and grandmothers fought. With more women in the business and educational process, greater legislative rights and an increase of women’s visibility as role models, we could believe that women could have gained true equality… The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than for men. However, great improvements have been made, therefore I am definitely positive for the future!
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” (world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem).
